Shot Clock - NY

A shot clock is used in NY - can someone working here please remind me of how it is to be reset if a) defense knocks ball OOB b) defense kicks ball

Thanks!

For HS Games?

Yep. 35 (I think) second clock.

Has the NY state athletic association made its own shot clock rules, or do they simply use NCAA shot clock rules?

Don't know if the shot clock for HS is handled different then college. At the college level if the defense knocks the ball OOB then their is no rest of the shot clock. If the defense kicks the ball and the shot clock is below 15 seconds then we would set the clock SC to 15 seconds. If the SC is 15 seconds or above then the SC would stay where it is @ with no reset.

Found this on these very forums in one version or another and use them regularly.

30 Second Shot Clock Operators Summary

Reset to 30 seconds when:
• A shot hits the rim
• The defense commits a foul
• The defense gains team or player control

Reset to 15 seconds when:
• The defense “kicks” the ball with 15 seconds or less remaining on the shot clock.

Do not reset the shot clock:
• If the defense deflects the ball out-of-bounds.
• The defense “kicks” the ball with > 15 seconds on the shot clock
• On a held ball with team control (i.e. not on a rebound), if the arrow is pointing to the offensive team

Reset to 15 seconds when:
• The defense “kicks” the ball with 14 seconds or less remaining on the shot clock.

In bold is the only change, it went from 15 or less to 14 or less

I'd make it:

Reset to 15 seconds when:
• The defense “kicks” the ball with less than 15 seconds remaining on the shot clock.

Truerookie is correct as per rule revisions this year. It is 14 second or less showing on the shot clock.

That's what they mean, but not what they say. The actual rule is 2-14-6f. Stop the shot clock and: "When an intentionally kicked ball occurs with 14 seconds or less remaining, set to 15 seconds."

14.5 seconds is more than 14 seconds remaining. But the shot clock will show 15 until the actual time remaining is 14.0. Not really all that important. Just thought I'd mention it.

Thats what we said. Until the shot clock gets tenths of a second on them it will always be that way. So lets leave as we agree.

Question -

Do double fouls, simultaneous fouls, etc., where POI is used, have an effect on the shot clock?

No reset if there is team control at the time of the double foul. NCAA 2-14-7f.
