What's yo Bag?

Looking for some opinions on what you use for your game bag?

I've seen:

22" Carry on luggage style?

Leather bag w/ shoulder strap

etc

I am leaning carry on suit case style.

Any brand you'd recommend?

I'm looking at Travelpro which range from $150 - $300 for a 22" expandable

Opinions?

I will probably order this one from ebags, unless I find it in a store soon:

I was looking at this one:

http://www.ebags.com/travelpro/plati...?modelid=78534

But $260!

I think I like the "built in garment bag" concept

OHBBREF Mon Nov 13, 2006 08:02am

but naturally in the color Red!

I have an old cloth carry on style bag with two outer pockets for whistles and auxillary items and two side pockets for shoes that I love but I can not find another bag like it.

Larks I would look at one of the "seconds" stores locally - Tuesday Morning usually has a nice selection of carry on bags as low as $ 50 - $ 70. Choice of colors might be limited.

Go to Kohl's / Target / Wal-Mart and spend $120 - $240 less than the above.

I prefer the carry bag (large gym bag style) to the roller suitcase style for basketball.

Bag

I just use a plastic bag from walmart, If I am out I switch to the Paper grocery bag!

Actually I bought a leather gym bag and it works great!

I do quite a bit of traveling especially in the summer and my travelpro 18" carry-on is the best. Bar none.

JRutledge Mon Nov 13, 2006 01:55pm

I just purchased a bag this weekend from TravelPro that sounds like the bag that Larks posted. I am not sure if it is based on what I know at this time. My bag cost about $150 but I bought this bag at a luggage specific store at a mall. It has many of the same features that were posted but I am not sure if it is exactly the same. The inner garment bag is just wonderful.

Peace

That sounds about right - there are a couple models I've seen online with the garment bag around $150. The "Crew 5" I think was one model by TravelPro that I saw.

Where do you put your shoes?

I believe this is the bag.

I think this is my bag

I put the shoes right in the bag. If you do it right by putting your pants and shirt in the garment portion of the bag, you will not need much space in the main compartment for much else. Also I was told that this is a very popular brand for airport personnel.

Try eBay. $179 + $18 shipping.

According to the web site, this item ships free. I have ordered from them before and the shipping is free.

I have a 24" expandable Samsonite that I picked up from http://www.luggagebase.com. They've some pretty good prices.

Now, if you talk to M&M or refnrev, they will tell you that I basically carry around a PODS. :D But it never hurts to be fully prepared (again, they would probably say I'm over prepared ;)).

You think. Do the words "ready for a foreign or alien invasion" have any meaning for you?;)

I use a 20" Nike shoulder bag with one side pocket. I have Nike shoes, one extra pair of pants and shorts, a towel, extra whistles and smittys, extra IHSA wristband, Detour Bar, Cliff, Bar, comb, Afta, and listerine pocket packs, rules book, case book, officials manual, Tylenol, Biofreeze, and business cards. O yeah, a small pepper spray key chain I bought for some stupid reason about 7 years ago. All the small stuff and books are neatly sealed in ziplock bags ... a trick I learned from a really good packer with OCD! (I'm not kidding about the OCD thing, here! She really did have it.) And I still have LOTS OF ROOM. Only thing some would say is wrong with it is that it is gold rather than black, but I bought it when I was in Mt. Carmel and it was on sale at Hibbets. The black one wasn't so I picked half of the Golden Aces colors. But I never get it confused with my partners' bags!

Basically?!? It gets downright annoying when the forklift driver has to come in to some of those small dressing areas! :D

I've always used the smaller, carry-on size roller suitcases. For me they seem to hold up longer than the shoulder-bag styles, and they do come in handy when you have to walk down some long hallways. Since I also do a small amount of travelling for work, it doubles as a travel suitcase as well. I can't see having at least one bag on wheels going through most airports.

I guess the question is: Do you go with the 22 since you know you can carry it on or do you not worry about carry-on issues for now. When it becomes a problem for your referee bag, you can probably afford to buy another 22".

I'll throw this out knowing SOMEONE will run a different direction with it....

Here goes....

Do the extra 2 or 3 inches make a difference?

So let me get this straight? You're really asking if size matters?

I have found I have plenty of room in my 22". I usually carry my shoes, jacket, towel, two of everything else, including pants, shirts, socks, etc., rule books and notebooks, small Tupperware container for my whistles, and another container for gum, mints, comb (for those that need one), nail clippers, tissues, liquid soap, shampoo, etc. I still have room to add more if needed, so I don't feel jammed in yet. Some people (...coughTannercough...) might need a little more room because they bring more stuff with them, or they might have two sets of shirts, say HS and college. I suppose there's also the issue of the size of the official - the guy who is 6'5", with size 14 feet, will probably need a bigger bag just because their stuff takes up more space than say, other vertically-challenged officials who frequent (and used to frequent) this forum.

I have always purchased my cases from Kohl's. They usually have a good, inexpensive selection, usually bigger than say, WalMart. But it doesn't hurt to keep an eye out for bargains.

JRutledge Tue Nov 14, 2006 11:16am

This would be so easy.

I will keep it clean. I will say the extra inches will not make that much difference (I cannot believe I am saying this :D). It really depends on what you put in the bag. I am the kind of person that puts two whole uniforms in my bag. I usually need the space. The bag I purchased has a garment bag inside and leaves plenty of room for shoes or just about any small item you might carry. Ultimately you have to decide if you like your bag and if it works for you. I have tried many bags and the bigger bags do not necessarily work either. It is about how easy the bag is to transfer and how easy it is to pack and move the bag.

Peace

I am not very self conscious about these kinds of things. I will leave it at that. ;)
