Rule question
Federation rules:
A player cutting along lane towards basket, receives a pass and a) controls pass begins layup and loses ball on own, then regathers and lays it in without dribble, b) never gains possesion of pass as he goes towards basket and in attaining possession uses more than 2 steps to attain it then lays it in. Both scenarios ball never hits the floor, it is bobbled within the hands of the offensive player. Good basket or no basket? |

b) no violation |
This is a hard one to sell to coaches and fans. It's the old, "That looked funny, so you should call something."

Not kidding at all. This is the one good thing about calling little kids games locally where you know everybody. A situation like this happens, the fans all stand and say, in unison, HEY!!You call nothing, the buzz continues for a few seconds, and then it is gone. Later you can pick out somebody you thought should know something, and ask them, "What were y'all yelling about?" The answer goes something like, "That kid, uh, traveled, or double dribbled, or something." Then you can explain the rule and work toward educating the public. (good luck) This also happens A LOT on backcourt and .3 at the end of a quarter. |

It is a bobble - No possession and no Violation and no call. It is pretty hard to sell a no call. The explaination to the coach is simple Bobble = no possession = no violation insert visual of football "juggling " signal. Stop sign Penalize the insanity! |
why is sit. a legal -- he had possesion and goes up and loses possesion on his own?
|
You answered your own question. Once you lose control of the ball, you can't travel.
|
doh -- so no violation? NICE!!!
