OOB Traveling

If the player throwing the ball in (not after a made basket), jumps, leaves the floor, and returns to the floor without passing yet, is that considered traveling? Does he have a three-feet area in which to move? (high school rules)

It is impossible to travel while throwing the ball in. There is a 3 foot wide spot, subject to interpretation of the covering official, but let me repeat. It is impossible to travel while throwing the ball in.

Not travelling. No restrictions on moving their feet, so long as they stay over the throw-in spot. Yes it is 3 feet wide.

This is one reason why it is not appropriate to use the traveling signal for a throw in violation. As was said, there can be no traveling on the throw in.

Basketball Rules Fundamental #5: Travel and dribble rules don't apply during a throw-in.

Just to go a little further...only one foot has to remain on or over the 3-foot wide spot until the ball is released, not both.
