NBA Shirts
 

What is with pro sports and their desire to make the officials look anywhere between silly and absolutely ridiculous? The new NFL shirts/jackets are bad enough, but the NBA shirts are the worst I've seen since whatever football league was using red in their shirts.

If you haven't seen them, they are made by Adidas, thus, three football style blue shoulder stripes coming down the arm. As bad as that is, there is the wide panel in BLACK!

I don't think the NBA shirts are hideous, I'm not a fan, I liked the old ones. However, the NFL shirts are ridiculous. I always welcome new styles, such as the new grey ones for high school, which we cant use in texas. But I dont like the pro ones, but I bet if I HAD to wear it, i could stand it. :D

Why is it that many people feel like they have to mention NOT being a fan every time they mention anything about the NBA?

Probably because <b>many</b> people <b>aren't</b> fans of the NBA anymore.

It's a personal preference and everybody is entitled to their own.

I understand you totally. I just think it is almost as if people feel like they will get looked down on if they like the NBA so they always include the fact that they aren't a fan. Most of the discussion here is about officiating and IMO there is no question that NBA officials are the best in the world. Just my opion or personal preference. :D

My personal opinion is that officiating in the NBA might just be the hardest officiating job in all sports. The league has been geared to entertainment, with an accompanying relaxation of their own written playing rules. Having to figure out <b>when</b> or <b>who</b> to call traveling or palming on when your boss doesn't want <b>every</b> palm or travel called has to be hard. And also trying to figure out what contact affects or doesn't affect a play sure has to be difficult too. I've seen plays where the contact didn't look like much at all, but one of the players came out of it with a broken nose.

Again, this is jmo, but I really think that today's players have outgrown the size of the court. Lengthen and widen the court, and let 'em spread out and show their skills. Go to the bigger lane. If they can't dribble or pass on the bigger court, then they ain't gonna play until they learn how. And they will learn. It should get rid of the sumo matches that some games look like now too.

OK, I agree with you for the most part. I think what you suggest could be very interesting. I could probably say some things that many wouldn't agree with. I will just say that IMO one of the "best players" and poster boys of the NBA isn't a highly skilled basketball player. I think that fact is masked by his superior physical gifts. Oops, that should have given it away since one person in the NBA is obviously athletically superior to anyone else. :D

But still Jurassic, why say you aren't a fan of the NBA? Do we lose perspective? You described what the NBA is and I don't disagree with it. I think the changes they are making should make it easier for the officials. A travel should be a travel no matter who does it. I have said what you are saying for years. What if officials looked at Karl Malone the same way they looked at Dennis Rodman? Malone would have had nearly as many T's because he was one big... you know. :D

Speaking of things looking weird, how about the NBA pre-game jackets?

I'm a fan of basketball. I'm not a fan of whatever the NBA is playing these days. It's that simple. I just don't find it personally entertaining at all any more, and I used to be a huge NBA basketball fan. When I can turn on a game and I don't have a clue what traveling or a foul is, then it's time to watch something else. JMO.

Again, I have no problem with what you are saying, but you aren't one of the ones who has to say they aren't a fan of the NBA before saying anything about the NBA. :)

Oh, I don't feel either way about the shirts. Someone designs new shirts for them every year.

I've lost interest in the NBA over the years. It may coincide with the demise of my 76'ers and also with the fact that now that I officiate I don't have as much of a desire to watch basketball when I relax.

I agree with Jurassic in some aspects in that I do not like what I see on the NBA court. It's not even entertaining to me. There are a lot of players in the NBA who can't perform basic, fundamental, basketball moves.

i love the wide striped shirts the nfl has....a lot less lines looks better to me! I"m sure they will experiment with the stripes in the basketball shirts too!
