Dolphin Whistle?

Lot of thefolks at the shoot around asking about the Dolphin Whistle.

Anybody have - use one?

Every once in a while, somebody asks about it. I've never used one. http://forum.officiating.com/showthread.php?t=19638

I use it for soccer and like it, for basketball I haven't tried it yet. I don't think it will be comfortable in my mouth all the time, but again, it works well for soccer. It has a very similar tone to the Fox 40. A buddy of mine from China says it is the popular whistle overseas and recommended by many FIBA referees.

I also think it just looks weird...

I have a dolphin.

I like it cause when I use fox, I have bad hearing a long time afterwards, the dolphin is nicer to the ears but still as loud and good whistle.

But yes, it looks special :p but I don't care, who's looking at the referee's whistle anyway?^^

I used one today for the first time. It is very similar to the Fox 40 as far as sound. After using something else for years, it is a little awkward. I kept looking at it before I put it into my mouth because it is almost the same on the top and bottom. It isn't as wide as the Fox 40, but it is still comfortable.

Dolphin has a slightly deeper, full-sounding resonance at a similar pitch to the Fox.
It's still a bathtub toy to me.

Who was it that said in a previous post on this subject that he, "wasn't blowing no fish in public?"

I tried it but I the flippers kept sticking in my cheeks (no, not those cheeks, smart guy).

I tried the dolphin for the first time last week, while the sound is somewhat similar, I prefer the Fox 40. I guess old habits are hard to break.

I found this web page

http://www.coachdepot.com/shop/?cat=whistledepot

which has some interesting variations. I especially like the purple one, and the camo whistle. Maybe they use that in Iraq? Or is it supposed to be disguised if it falls on a staudard wood basketball floor?

And I'm kinda curious about the "Micro". I suppose it goes on a lanyard? Otherwise, I'm afraid I'd swallow it! Has anyone tried it?

The camo whistle is used by the same guys who hitchhike wearing camo.

BTW, Juulie. I agreed to do all the scheduling for TBA this year. ABC is totally out of the loop. If you're interested, I'll let you pick your games and partners (really). Let me know. Games start Dec. 1.

Sheez, Mark, you really know my weak spots, don't you? Knowing that ABC is gone, I'm quite tempted. (And I really hope that W&S isn't reading this!) I'll e-mail you.

Just for the rest of you - ABC is a term used around here to describe a certain official who's name begins with "C". It refers to an answer to the question, "Who would you like for a partner?" It means "Anybody But C.....".
