Can someone verify whether the NCAA changed the reporting mechanics from the "push" mechanic back to the long switch? I was doing a scrimmage tonight and a D1 official said they were instructed to revert back to the long switch mechanic from two years ago. Help anyone?

Yes, Long Swith Is Back!
Jim,
Yes, in the camps I attended this past summer, we were advised that the long switch was back in and to get used to it. I have also now been to two of my college meetings and again it was reiterated that the "long switch" is back. My own thougts were "why" and during camps thought they would rethink it before the season, but it appears that's not the case.

NCAA Women have kept the no long switch -- at least according to the CCA manual
(Edited to insert the word "no" -- thanks to Mick and bigwhistle for pointing out the error.) [Edited by bob jenkins on Oct 15th, 2001 at 06:51 AM] |

The long switch was brought back into the Men's NCAA mechanics. The reasoning behind it is that many times the lead official wasn't coming out at all (i.e. was staying on the baseline) to report.
