Nike & Addidas Camps
I just read on ESPN.com that both Nike & Addidas are no longer going to run the all-star camps. Any ideas on how the ACC, Big South, and some of these other DI Conference Assigners will evaluate potential referees once this occurs?

BTW Dream, what is the link for that story? |
They will run camps like many assignors already do without those camps. I do not know many officials that have ever attended the Nike and Addidas camps, but were hired at the D1 level anyway. I was never under the impression these camps were used by most supervisors anyway as a training or an evaluation camp.

Click on the college and then the basketball tab on the home page.

I attended the Adidas camp this past summer and got hired by the Big South. From the roster that I've seen, there were a few people who were at Adidas this year and were invited to be on the staff.

I think ACC used Nike and SEC used Adidas. But they definitely aren't/weren't the sole source for finding/evaluating/training officials for those conferences. Just one of many tools.
I would like to see the link. Are the camps going away or just the sponsorship. Oops, answered my own question. The camps themselves will no longer exist. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2605379 |

If you're good, the timing is right, and the right people see you, the D1's know how to find you. |

I was at Adidas camp, Big South ran 3 other camps too. I'm sure the other conferences do too, regardless they will find a camp.
|
Where are most of these camps held? And how do you attend?
|
Depends what conference you want to get to see you. Many of the camps are by invitation but its not that hard to get an invitation.

Darn!!
Darn, it would be a shame for Nike to stop doing this. Once you get to Nike, your next step is usually a spot on staff.
