Question about players during T.O's
I think I was reading a rule recently that said that players are bench personnel during halftime. So the coach would get an indirect if one of them got a T. What about during time-outs? Would all players be bench personnel during time-outs? If yes, do they become bench personnel the second the T.O. is granted? Thanks.

During a time-out, the players that were on the court at the beginning of the time-out are considered as "players", not "bench personnel". Iow, if one of them gets a "T" during the time-out, the head coach is not charged with an indirect "T" also.
Rules reference is case book play 4.34.1 in the new 2006-07 case book. It ain't in last year's case book. The "COMMENT" in that new case play says "During a time-out, A1 is considered a player and not bench personnel". Welcome to the Forum, Mendy. Good question. |

In the 2006-07 case book:
4.34.1 Comment: During a time-out, A1 is considered a player and not bench personnel. The 5 that were on the floor when the TO is called will all remain players, unless they get substituted for (when the sub checks in) during the TO. edit: Ah JR beat me to it! |
