What's your favorite PDA?
A few years ago I used a Palm m130 to keep my schedule. I liked it.
It was easy, quick and fit easily in my shirt pocket (looked a tad nerdy though.) Then it was stolen from my truck. Replaced it with a HP ipaq rx3115. I don't like it. I really don't need a hand held pc. It's just too much. I've thought of getting a "smart" phone but I like my old motorola flip and I'm concerned of the "too much" aspect. I'm about to go on ebay to buy another m130 and thought of asking you guys if you can convince me that there's a better solution for keeping a schedule digitally. |
Wow...
Over my head I use a day planner...
|
I just use Microsoft Outlook and a Palm Pilot. The Palm is no frills. Heck, it's not even color, it's B/W. I don't even know which model it is. But it does the job, which is all I need.
My wife and I work for the same school system, so I share my Outlook calendar with her. She can pull it up from her desktop and know what nights I have games, clinics, meetings, etc. And I don't have to hear, "Where's yourgame tonight?" every morning that I walk out with my bag. Between Outlook and the Palm, I'm all set. |
I Too...
use outlook for all my game scheduling but havent either become profecient enough or confident enough to invest in a palm pilot. Maybe after i figure out what all the functions on my cell phone do.
|
I never got around to synching up with Outlook. I should though, when I get my new gizmo. My wife too works for the same school district; same school actually, and would benefit from seeing my schedule when she has the urge.
|
I use a pocket PC...Dell Axim X5 (one of the first ones). It's held up very well and is more than I need (for what I use it for). It integrates well with outlook.
|
I use the Day Timer and outlook. I used a tugsten E at one time, but If you don't synch frequently and you loose the battery charge on the PDA, now you are SOL. Just a day timer works fine, Although lately I just print out my schedule from Arbiter..
|
I use the Palm Tungsten E. Its not too bulky and does everything I need to do. I have a program I installed that lets me transfer and use Microsoft Word and Excel Files. I haven't had problems with battery charging, but if you loose information on the PDA, it is retained in your computer and can be retrieved easiely when you sync them.
I keep game schedules and all my contact numbers on it. |
I use a Palm T/X with a 2GB SD card, so it doubles as an MP3 player and Video viewer. It has Bluetooth and WiFi, so you can surf the net at any WiFi hotspot and synch up without using a cradle.
I've got a one hour subway commute, so it comes in handy. You can even view PDA files with the Palm Acrobat reader, so you can download eBooks and NCAA rule books, if you'd like. Best bang for the buck of any toy I've purchased. Unqualified recommendation. |
I have this BlackBerry and it rocks!! :)

The first five years or so of reffing, I used the little Hallmark "Monthly Planners" with cute little kittens or puppies on the cover. They come in the mail with the solicitations for donations to various charities ( I never donated to them, so the planners didn't cost me anything!). The nice thing about them is that they don't take batteries, and require very little juking around to get out and look at. They didn't make my shirt pocket look nerdy, and as long as I used ball point ink, nothing ever got lost into the ozone.
Now my husband has "given" me a Palm Handspring. It's taken a LOT of getting used to. I'm still not sure I really like it. It's annoying that it takes AAA batteries, and it isn't rechargable, and it doesn't have any back up power. So if it physically takes too long to get those little boogers out and the new ones in, I LOSE EVERYTHING. So I had better have backed the whold thing up on my desktop tie-in software. UGH!! I really think I may go back to the cute little kittens, wallet size Hallmark thing this year. |
notebook, Microsoft Outlook, and a printer work fine for me.
and this coming from a professional I.T. fella |
I use the HP Jornada 720 PC, it is fully loaded with the latest Windows including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OmniSolve, Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, and Yahoo Messenger.

I use a fairly simple Palm Zire and sync it with Outlook both at home and at the office. This, in effect, gives me two "backups".:)

What do kittens and puppies have to do with my response to the original question? MTD, Sr. |
I use a Dell Axim as well and think it's great. I also use it for work quite extensivly. It's a Windows based OS and syncs up well with Outlook.

2) Then get Daryl, or someone else with a sense of humor, to explain the correlation to you.:D |
I've been using a Palm Zire 72 that I bought off CompUSA's auctions on ebay. I also have the mp3 thing going and a baseball scorekeeper program for my other sideline as a coach and interested parent.
|
I carry and Apple IIGS and a generator. It allows me to play Karatika and Dr. J vs. Larry Bird on the way home. Actually I keep my whole life on a Palm Tungsten E2. I got it at a decent price on overstock.com (I got an open box model). I like it alot. It has more bells and whistles I don't use, but I have something to play with on the way home from games when I'm not driving.

I did not read Rainmaker's original post until just now and I still don't see where her post has anything to do with mine. It is not a matter of whether I have a sense of humor or not (I do have a sense of humor, just ask anyone), her comments about kittens and puppies have nothing to do with my post. MTD, Sr. |

Subtle, dry irony. I like that style of humor, Mark! Gave me a good laugh. |

sony clie/assignment secretary!!
:p I jott everything on my palm... of my hand. j/k I have a sony clie and I love it, mp3 player, games,... syncs with a variety of outlook type whatchamacallits. It also has picture and movie capabilities so not only can I have pictures of cute little puppies and kittens, but movies of them as well!
anyway, I once found this assignment secretary that I bought off a website for a few bucks, it was on my desktop then it would hotsync to the clie and keep track of EVERYTHING, mileage, partners, locations etc., (more than i could fit on the palm of my hand). then I had to reset my clie and lost my registration code so I don't have it anymore. If I find the number to call they can look up my purchase though. they were very helpful. |

I've had a Palm T|X for a couple of months now, and really liked it. Until yesterday.
Yesterday I bought a new, bluetooth enabled, Sanyo Kitana phone. The T|X is supposed to be able to use the phone a couple of ways. The one I was most interested in was the ability to dial the phone directly from the Palm's contact list, so I don't have to keep two phone lists up to date. However, beginning with the LifeDrive and T|X Palm has very kindly removed support for CDMA phones. They only supports GSM phones. The best explaination I've found is that they are trying to drive people to the Treo phone. I'm ready to sell my Palm now and get a different PDA from a company less likely to make stupid decesions. |
Regular Palm
I use the ole $99 Palm and Act! as a contact management and planner.
