How does a thread get locked?

I see the 8/10 panel ball thread is locked. How does that occur? Admin. function?

Its an admin function and usually happens when stuff gets out of hand (like name calling and childish behavior) on a moderated board...such as this one.

Seems like it would just be easier to zap it off the board and issue "T"s to the parties involved.

Sometimes that happens as well. :)

In reality, it is just as easy to take either approach.

Sometimes there is some discussion of actual value that occurs before it gets to the point where it needs locking. In such cases I've seen them clear out the worst of the cruft and lock the thread. Not a bad approach much of the time.

I was the original poster for that thread. On one of the final posts before it got locked JRutledge wrote “Funny the OPer has not come back one time to respond.”

--I did check back on that thread occasionally and my main thought was always “That thread is still going on!?”

JRut’s first post answered most of my question of if a 10 panel was ok. Jurassic added useful info that I was correct there used to be a rule.

I agree with some of what Nevada wrote but didn’t care enough to comment.

As a lurker and occasional poster I’ve learned there a few people here who’s answers I will trust and Jurassic is the top of that list.—Although he is a cranky old coot. :D

Chuck had one of the best posts I’ve read:

“Lock it!!! Lock this one now!!! Before it's too late!!!!”

----Now let's see what this does. Maybe this should be locked as well.
