About the Rules in the USA

Hey pals, I'm a Chinese in-campus college student. And got certificate here under FIBA rules. I was wondering about the rules in the USA, do USA has some different rules in different associations or league? For example, between NCAA & some senior highs. I might fly USA for school later and wanna officiate some games there. Who could offer me some free sites of downloading the rule books, thank you!
By the way, are the non-USA people permitted to get some ref certificate in the States.

ChuckElias Tue Aug 15, 2006 09:40am

Non-US citizens can become referees in the US, Luis. There are 3 main sets of rules in the US. NFHS, which governs our high schools (teenage boys and girls); NCAA, which governs our university teams; and the NBA. The high school rules are not available online, but here are the links for the other two:

NBA: http://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_index.html

NCAA: http://www.ncaa.org/library/rules/20...ball_rules.pdf

Good luck with your travels to the US.

Greatly thanks ChuckElias! Yes, I read NBA rules often and briefly read about the NCAA's. And I really hope I could officiate in US if I'll be there soon.

You wrote "apologize for any inconvenience." You obviously meant "I apologize for any inconvenience." But without the "I" the phrase would properly be interpreted as having the implied subject "you" and would read "you apologize for any inconvenience." Your phrase would then be a directive, which I followed. Of course, it would take a real smart-*** to take it that way. But I am :D

Let's see how that translates.....:D

Luis, as long as you are here to discuss basketball officiating and not spam up the place trying to sell shoes, you most certainly are welcome.

Shalom...

I was called a wise-*** by my brother-in-law recently, which I took to be a promotion from smart-***.

In my case, it was a comment about an unfinshed canoe that has been at 95% completion for about 13 years. They were coming over for a visit and I asked if the canoe was coming along. Consistency is the key. Canoe comments are not constant, but it is sort of a 'back to basics' topic that is brought to the fore at appropriate times.
