If I were basketball only (also work football), I might like to see a girls' season early followed by a boys' season. I think the schools might even like that, as it would free up gyms for both practice and games. Of course, I might tire of hoops by December, when the boys/college season is just getting going.
Frankly, until I saw certain early starting seasons on this board, I had no idea anyone started playing interscholastic basketball until early November (very late October at the absolute earliest). |

As a one-sport official, I like having the girls and boys seasons separated. I get to work a couple of times a week for six and one-half months rather than four times a week for three and one-half or four months. I know that there are a lot of other considerations -- and that officials' convenience is not high on the list -- but the more reasonable time demands sure are a lot more conducive to a happy and healthy family life. (Of course, there are a lot more significant factors to that as well...) |
Maybe we need some clarification around the term "season"... "Coach hunting" may happen any place, any time... It's kinda permanent open season.
Seriously though, here we have all sorts of competitions running almost all the time, except for a break from mid-December to mid-February. |

Indeed... We celebrate Christmas by going to the beach. Summer break at schools is between mid Dec and mid February.
