You will have study up on Fiba rules, as most countries outside the USA uses Fiba rules. The rules can be downloaded from fiba.com, cheers and good luck.

Yokosuka camp

I am going to a camp at Yokosuka base in Japan in mid-August. It will be run by an American D-1 official using NCAA rules/mechanics. The head of the Japanese profesional league will also be there observing/teaching/recruiting.

If you want to register let me know ASAP.

(I don't know of any International camps. I've been overseas for some years and everyone usually goes to the States in the summer to go to a camp.)

On the FIBA FAQ it says:

"Q: How do I become an international referee?

To become an international referee, you must follow the procedure laid down in the Internal Regulations of FIBA: Chapter 7: Regulations governing International Referees, article 7.1, "Qualification and Appointment". Then please contact your national federation which has the information about the next Clinic for International Referee Candidates."

Hmmm, interesting. But I don't recall ever hearing of a USA Basketball or FIBA game happening anywhere near me. How much basketball is there played in the US under the USA Basketball or FIBA?

The pre-Olympic and pre-World Championship/World University games and exhibitions are played under FIBA rules. USA Basketball usually has a schedule on their site.

There are two great international camps I know of in Europe.

One is in England, held by Alan Richardson, Technical Adviser and Clinic Director of ULEB (governing body for the EuroLeague and other competitions in Europe). Check his website for his impressive resume and everything you need to know about his camp: www.candobasketball.co.uk
I'll attend his camp in July. If you'd like to know more about it, send me a PM!

The other is in Poland. Beside many other FIBA certified international referees (Kotleba, Richardson, Rigas, to name a few) from all over Europe, Tomy Nunez is in attendance. Looking at the staff, this might be one of the best camps you can attend not only in Europe, but world-wide, especially if you are interested in international basketball. Check their website: www.eastmeetswest.pl

Cheers,
Kostja
