NBA Question

I've noticed this for a few years now...

But why do they shoot at their own bench's basket the first half then opposite in the 2nd? Is this really necessary?

But tonight, for the Detroit/Miami series, it's what normal basketball is played like. In the 2nd half, each team is shooting at the basket that is indicative of their bench.

Is there a rule on this? If so/not, then why do they go the opposite way the majority of the time?

Oh, Dallas wins again tomorrow night. :D

And question #2--I saw a link on here a few years back where you could find how much NBA officials make. Anyone have that link or know the information?

Visiting coach has his choice.

No link. From what I hear of, if you include playoff payment (because all officials get playoff money whether they work them or not) its about 200k starting, up to about 500k.

1st year official makes 84K base, plus about 20K in a playoff share even though they will not work games. Plus they get a per diem, travel expenses which they make a few bucks on and so forth. Basicall, 1st year refs make about 140K. 30 Year vets will make close to 500K

That sounds about the same as I heard from a rookie NBA ref last spring after his first season.

BBR,
Is that in the rule book?

If so I have been doing it wrong. I insist that they shoot opposite their bench in first half, with their bench 2nd half. Never gave anyone a choice.

Sam, you've only been wrong if you were using NBA (or maybe FIBA) rules. Otherwise you've been doing it right.

Shooo... I was afraid I had been wrong and even worse, perpetuating the error.

Fiba is as stated above, unless "if both teams agree they can change baskets or bench" bah, nobody ever agrees, if somebody's seated on the wrong side the other team nicely takes the wrong side too, I've nevere seen anybody protest anyway
