NBA changes rules to match NFHS
I guess water is flowing uphill today.
I just read about two NBA rule changes for next season in the sports section. 1) Head coaches will be able to directly call time-outs next year during live balls. Currently, only a player can be granted a time-out it unless it's a dead ball situation. 2) The "clear path" foul will result in 2 shots plus ball instead of 1 shot plus ball (so that will be the same penalty as an NFHS intentional foul). I'm not that up on NBA rules. What is a "clear path" foul? |
A clear-path-to-the-basket foul occurs when there is a fast break and there is no defensive player between the offensive player and his basket. In other words, the breaking player has a clear path to the basket. If, in that situation, the defensive player fouls from behind to stop the fast break, the offensive player is awarded 2 FTs and the ball.
There are a couple other stipulations (for example, where the play starts) to the clear path foul, but that's the main idea. |
