Snake, yes that's his daughter...heard she and her sister (also playing NCAA) make regular appearances at his camp.

I was just wondering if there are any other officials with offspring who have gone on to their own celebrity.

- Manny Upton: 2 sons have been 1st round draft picks in MLB draft (#1 overall this past draft)

- Jack Nies: son Eric Nies was on 1st season of MTV's Real World and has his own exercise videos

- Jess Kersey: of course his son Bryan Kersey

That's all I can think of off the top of my head

Who is Bryan Kersey?

Could you also give us information who these officials are? Where do they work and what are some of their accomplishments. We all do not live in the same part of the country. These are not all household names.

Peace

Sorry about that, my East Coast bias setting in again, even though I'm originally from California.

Jess Kersey is NBA ref.

Bryan Kersey is a crew chief in the ACC and worked the Texas/Penn 1st round, Memphis/Bradley Sweet 16 and NIT Championship.

Manny Upton is ACC ref.

Jack Nies is NBA ref.

George Tolliver is former NBA ref who runs a very popular camp in Harrisonburg, VA (James Madison University)

George Tolliver's daughter = freshman Maryland guard who drained a gorgeous 3-pointer over 6'7" defender to send NCAA-W final game into overtime

Thanks Bad, that helps me and I am sure others understand who we are talking about.

Peace

forgot about Father & Son Garretson's in the NBA. Does Ronny Nunn have a son working?

Also, David Guthrie (rookie NBA ref) is son of John Guthrie, former supervisor of officials for SEC/OVC/et al (also coached Georgia pre-Dominique Wilkins)

Is this what happens in this forum after March Madness?:o

Hank Nichols' son is a big-time D1 official.

Don't forget the whole Crawford family. Joey, an NBA ref, and his brother (don't know his name) is a MLB umpire. Their dad before them, Shag Crawford was an MLB umpire. What a family of officials. I wish mine was like that.

Jerry Crawford.

Wonder how many of these guys would have made the big time if it hadn't been for the old man?

Earl Strom always took credit for getting Joey Crawford into the NBA.

John Clougherty has a son who officiates D-1 basketball. His name is Tim Clougherty. Doug Hampton, a former SEC official, has two sons who officiate in D-1, John and Brent.

Ken Mauer (NBA ref) has a brother, who I believe did the D-II championship game a few weeks ago. The brother also runs the shot clock at Timberwolves games, I think.

refTN Wed Apr 05, 2006 07:54pm

I also believe that Ken Mauer, an NBA ref, has a son or a younger brother who works college ball.

Can't forget Ed Rush who was a longtime NBA official, then Commisioner breifly, then Head of referee development, and now I believe he's a group supervisor.

His son Eddie F Rush is in his 18th season in the NBA.

EDIT-

Doh! I knew Ed's son had something to do with officiating and the NBA so I put two and two together and grabbed his name off the nba ref's website. I humbly apologize. Thanks for the correction. I thought it was odd that Ed's son had been in the NBA for that long but hey, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Dribble Wed Apr 05, 2006 11:46pm

Careful...Ed T. Rush is Caucasian and Eddie F. Rush is African-American, so no relation there.

Ed T. Rush's son, Michael, runs the Coast to Coast Camp.
