Well, now that the WS is over - with the winner having the least number of non-strike year regular season wins ever I might add - you would think this thread is dead, Fred.

But you would be wrong...

So who's taking the hit for the Yankee's early exit from post season play? A-Rod? Torre? Cashman? Maybe Karl Rove or Hillary? Or maybe even the entire Yankee pitching staff??

No.

Lee Mazzilli.

Torre's in-game managing during the postseason has been a subject of discussion within the organization, and that did not paint Mazzilli's influence as bench coach in a positive light.

Well, certainly unbelieveable. No question I doubted this team heading into the playoffs. I thought they would get ran over. But, I guess that's why you play the games. Great night, now I'm trying to get tickets to their Rally and Program tomorrow. I'm doing this virtual waiting room thing again. I probably won't get tickets. But, it's worth a shot.

St. Louis Cardinals

My season fully starts Monday. Is there any better way to kick it off?!

Torre gets one more year and he'd better win. Sheffield is gone. A-Rod should go. Giambi has to be a permanent DH.

Blow up the pitching staff except for Wang and the relievers with live arms. Trade Jaret Wright's azz back to the NL where he belongs. See if anybody is stoopid enough to take Pavano of our hands. Stick a fork in Randy Johnson and then pin a buy-out on his chest. Send Farnswoth and his 100mph fastball anywhere. Mussina is 50/50 at his age, but he's a #3 starter at best and he ain't worth 8 figures.

You win with pitching and defense. The Yanks don't have enough of either at key spots.

There....instant G.M.

Or, just fire Lee Mazzilli and head off to Hawaii.

Gotta say, I'm disappointed. But those Tiggers still had a magnificent season. I hope they can keep it up next year, b/c they seem to have a great base to work with.

And JR's favorite manager becomes only the second manager to a World Series in each league.

It's true, it's true!
Leaving any particular player out of the discussion, what is the point of filing for free agency? If your contract has expired with your previous club, why aren't you just automatically a free agent? What does "filing" accomplish?

Also, is it true that they've removed the "penalty" regarding signing with your old team by a certain date? If I remember correctly, that rule was the basis for one of the "collusion" lawsuits the players filed. It was when nobody signed Tim Raines as a free agent and he had to wait till May 1 to re-sign with the Expos.

To be quite honest, I really don't know all of the ins-and-outs of how it works. I think that if you don't file, you can only negotiate a new contract with your last team. If you file, you can negotiate with any team.

And, yes, I read somewhere too that they removed that signing date from the new labor contract.

And yes, LaRussa is, was, and remains the ultimate dickhead in all of MLB.

Liriano to have major elbow surgery, miss next season
By DAVE CAMPBELL, AP Sports Writer
November 3, 2006

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Francisco Liriano and the Minnesota Twins were afraid of this: His left elbow needs major surgery, and the pitching sensation is expected to miss the 2007 season. Liriano found out Friday that he requires Tommy John surgery, a ligament transplant procedure that usually takes at least a year to recover from.
