New Rules POLL

Somebody asked about putting some of the new rule suggestions into a poll. So here it is. You can vote for more than one.

Shot clocks in girls ball should not be allowed. You don't wanna rush girls at something they're already struggling with.

My problem w/ shot clocks is that if a state adopts it, it may put financial strains on smaller or rural school districts. In states that do have shot clocks, have any of you seen this as a problem?

Well, I think that you shoulda taken a poll first to see if we wanted this poll. What if the answer was "no"?

Wha'? What'd I miss?

I'm amazed that extending the game time has gotten any votes at all!

No vote here

None of the above.

I don't want to vote for any of these rule changes. I don't how any of them would improve the game. A rule change should improve the game, not just change it.

Interestingly enough we have had grey shirts in Canada for many years (ever since I started 15 years ago). We now have a movement to go to stripes! Here are the uniform changes I have seen in my time:

1. Grey shirt with blue collar and trim, blue pants.
2. Grey shirt with black collar and trim, black pants.
3. Grey shirt no collar, black trim, black pants.
4. Striped shirt.

Too much change. Stick with the stripes!

What happened to the one about Only players on the floor being able to call Time Out?

I really liked that one.

Additionally, I was wondering: If the coaches box is expanded to 28 feet, would that open up the possibility of the the Coach being called for a violation during free throws because he is between the basket and the free throw line extended?

The current (at least here) 14' box also extends below the FT line extended. And, certainly most benches extend below the FT line extended.

I like the closely guarded rule while only holding the ball. Makes things more consistant with college ball up here.

Grey shirts - bad idea as Chris said,

Like the clock stopping after a made basket with less than a minute left in the game.

Coaches should not get more room to rant and rave. They're able to coach using only a 14 foot space, why should they be given more room?

I think someone said earlier that there was room in polls for 10 answers, so maybe Chuck picked out the 10 most likely to generate debate.

I responded to the poll.
That's pretty cool.

Now, who likes the squirrel?

Being from Minnesota, we went to 18 minutes halves this year which covers 2 of the proposed rule changes. It seemed weird at first but you quickly adapt. We also went to instant replay at State Tournament for televised games, semis and finals. I had a State quarter, not televised, so no issue for our crew. I did see it used on some of the televised games.

The one rule I would be opposed which is getting a lot of positives is the 28 ft coaches box. Most high school gyms are not properly configured like college to really allow the coach to go to the baseline. Most high schools just have bleachers not chairs so they'd be in right front of fans, maybe even the band. There's no separation like there is in most college configurations. Keep it to 14 ft, keep them in front of their bench area.

You will need to create a poll to get the answer to that one. :D
