To summarize my opinion of last second calls: When someone says something about the end-of-game situations, all they are saying is "let's make sure we are right" or "let's not guess"...I really have never worked with anyone who had the philosophy that it "has to be hard/bad/major contact" to be called in the last minute...all I ever point out is that we need to be sure. If it was a foul earlier in the game, it better be a foul now. If it wasn't, it better not be now. I/we do not call the game differently in the last minute, we just want to be certain because - like it or not- those last second calls do have more of an impact on the game - at least in coaches/participants/evaluators/assignors minds...

Nate, with the experience you said you have these comments should be automatic for you - for all of us. At the end of a game, whether it is the last two minutes or whatever, we have to be right. A team cannot overcome our mistake at the end of a game.
Isn't it funny that it has taken days and many replays to hash this out and the official had to make an immediate decision? I think that decision wouldn't really be questionable without many replays, so what is the big deal. Worse things have happened.
