Why because you don't think it's a travel or because you don't think it should be called?

QuebecRef87 Fri Mar 24, 2006 12:50pm

Simply because nothing even comes close to a travel in that play.

When he gathers the ball the left foot is on the ground. Therefore this makes it his pivot foot. He then picks up the left foot and places it back to the floor. Ergo a travel. Please don't say that he's allowed 2 steps

I did say in my original post that I would not call this a travel because there are probably only 1% of officials that would call this and that is not the way to move up the ranks. I was just stating that it is a travel BY RULE.

Block. (Unless of course I was coaching for White in which case it would clearly be a charge...) ;)

At game speed, I'm not sure how you can be watching the defender as he steps in late AND possibly see whether the ball handler's foot is planted or airborne as he gathers the ball for the lay-up.

Even after several rewinds, I'm having trouble seeing any travel clearly. Travel would be a tough call imo.

At first I only checked it from the top view but from the side view, well, it actually comes close. But as the play happens quite fast, we can't really tell if he lifted his foot before gathering the ball. Therefore I don't see how you can be so positive about it!

I'm not saying that a travel should be called here because like you said I'm probably looking ahead for the defender. But with slow motion replay he gathers the ball with the left foot on the ground, IMO.

This one is close so lets say that he definitely gathered the ball with his foot on the ground. Do you make this call? If you watch a layup line this happens all time.

Yup, it's there.

He travelled.

He travelled.

In slow motion, after repeated viewing, it is very close to him gathering with his left foot down, but at regular speed it would be hard see, unless of course you are Ed Hightower ;)

No way is this a travel, not if I have to replay it over and over, stopping every frame, trying to determine exactly when the pivot foot was established. My association assignor preaches protect the ball, protect the shooter, and call the obvious. There was no obvious travel here, therefore there was no travel. There was, however, obviously a block as the defender failed to establish LGP and slid over into the path of the offensive player. Protect the ball - Block; Protect the shooter - Block; Call the obvious - Block: e.g., Block!

Exactly!!!

This is a text-book block...I see what people are saying on the travel but you can't honestly say that's what you would have called at game speed? Can you?

I actually say shame on the people who voted for the Player Control foul, because it doesn't matter how much you slow it down this is not a charge!
