Why can't we search the board anymore? The search feature is a great tool which would eliminate the need for some posts, and provides a good source of reference material.

I'm sure this has been asked before, however, I can't search to see the answer :( !

Cause Brad said so. Buy a membership to his site, and he might let you.

Yes, a search function would be nice. As a fairly new member of this community, there are many questions I would like to ask that I'm sure have already come up. Sometimes I fear to ask because some member with 8,000 + posts will say "That was covered in thread # 6,248,973 back in August, 2001. What is wrong with you?" :)

OK. Nobody has been that rude, but I'm still scared! ;)

You can search through Google's Advanced Search.

Also don't feel bad if your question was covered before because someone else will probably learn from it.

Usually members will bring it up if the same question is brought up in the same day.

Don't be concerned, just ask the question. If some 8000+'er responds like "That was covered in thread # 6,248,973 back in August, 2001. What is wrong with you?",
he/she is just showing off to the other regulars (sort of like chest bumping or whatever they call it). In fact, I will help you out here by asking the same question just asked to make you feel more comfortable.

Why is the search tool disabled? It would be very nice if I could search instead of asking a question that has been asked before, then have some 8,000 + posts regular insult me in their response.

I make an annual appeal for the reinstatement of the search function (it's been down for over 2 years now), but it's just not going to come back. Oh well.

And anyway, why would you ask that? What's wrong with you? ;)

Thanks Chuck!

And please note that you only have 7,566 posts, so I was not referring to you. :)

Right, Chuck's duties here only extend to annoying any spammers from Poland.

Now that the new format is here, the search function is back! :)

So Chuck can stop whining! ;)

Just a question, not a complaint. Are the searches limited to 100 results? Like if I search for all references to "brownpop" in posts by Dan, will it only give me the 100 most recent? If so, is there any setting to change that will give me all the other 1431 posts that he's made about beer? Just asking.

Brad Wed Mar 22, 2006 01:33pm

They were... I've changed it to 500 - that should be plenty! :)

We're still testing the search function right now... If it starts to impact server load we might have to turn it off again, but so far it is looking fine.
