I attended a High School Basketball game last night to see
one of the Bowling Green,OH. Players "Ryan Hoehner" 6'5'
Senior Forward score his 1000 pt. He scored it on a made
second free throw. They stopped the game for a moment to
pay tribute to his accomplishment. He then joined his
team mates on the floor so they could "High Five" him.
He then took the ball over into the stands and gave it to his
parents. He then "High Fived" both of them. As a Referee
it was great to be part of this Outstanding moment.
By the way Ryan scored 34 pts. last night.

Neat story GFS, thanks for sharing.

Just a couple of things... when typing your message, you don't need to hit the enter key when you get to the end the line in the area where you type the message - that "textarea" will scroll your typing to the next line automatically. It'll save you keystrokes and time!

Secondly, I assume that this is 1000 pts this season. How many games is a typical high school season? Is he the league's leading scorer? Just trying to discern his accomplishments a bit better...

That reminded me of a girl's game last year. The game admin. asked us refs before the game started if they could stop the game if/when their star shooter made her 1000th point. They were going to surprise her and music start playing. We said ok, and in the 3rd quarter, she hit a 3-pointer and the music came on. She gave the game ball to her parents too.

for this to be in one season, he'd have to be averaging over 40 pts/game. I'd be more likely to believe a career total.

I worked a game this season where a player (girls' game) scored her 1000th point. I asked the coach at halftime if they were going to do anything special as I heard about it from the game manager and hate to be surprised by anything.

His response? Winning the game came first and he'd call a timeout if they built up enough of a lead so they could acknowledge the player. Frankly, I found it refreshing. She scored her 1000th point early in the third quarter, but they didn't stop the game until there was 2 minutes left in the fourth, and they didn't even use a full timeout to congratulate her.

Last year I had a game in a Christian League where a kid surpassed 2000 points for his HS career. Great teammate, really got everyone involved and won 2 state titles. He's the freshman that starts at Univ Mo KC this year.
