This is a new one on me... The official scorer is obligated to hunt down the visiting coach at the 10 minute mark if she hasn't submitted her starting 5 in NCAA-W.

(She went to her dressing room roughly 15-20 minutes before the game without giving starters and didn't come back to the court until 2 minutes left).

That was my chuckle for the night. :)

Can you say lets forget about the jump ball and shoot freethrows? I bet u enjoyed that T.

Officials didn't call a T, which left me about as unhappy at them as I was at her creative rule interpretation :(

Under NCAA rules, I believe that since Team B should have gotten the T as soon is it was obvious that the starting 5 wasn't going to be recorded any time soon (when the official inspected the book), Team A would shoot two free throws and the POI would be the opening jump ball.

Sooo.....

You coach NCAA-W?

Rainmaker:

No, I'm not a coach. As my handle suggests, I am statistician. I've done everything from CYO to Semi-Pro basketball since I was a 6th grader. I also do softball and completed my first year of volleyball this fall as well.

I just don't like this particular visiting coach, because it's the second straight time she's been able to influence officials into acting outside the rules to her benefit. I do take solace in the fact that the home team won both of those games in question despite her creative rule interpretations. :D

You are correct. In NCAA there would still be a jumpball. In NFHS there would not be.

No one is obligated to go to the coach for this info. The team is responsible for supplying the scorer with their roster and starters prior to the ten minute mark. If those requirements are not met, a technical foul should be the result, but I'm sure that you realize far too many officials are reluctant to start games with a T.

What was her interpretation? That you are responsible to hunt her down? Nice.

Two years ago, we had an interrupted game that was resumed at a later date. In the meantime, each team had players become eligible that had been ineligible orignally. We had 3, they had 1.

She successfully convinced the R that we should be assessed 3 technical fouls, NCAA Rule 3-3-3 not withstanding.

Last night, she waits until ~1 minute left in warmups to give us her starters. That's when she made the comment it's the table's job to hunt her down. Funny how that part seems to be absent from NCAA 3-3-1. ;)

The funny thing is, in three games at our place in the last four years against her squad, she's 0-2 when she pulls this, and 1-0 when she doesn't. Hmmm. :D

I do realize officials are hesitant to start the game with a T, but now that she has an established pattern here, maybe it will be enough that another officiating crew will send her message that flouting the rules does eventually come back to bite ya.

Does anyone else notice how vastly different some of these administrative rules are in the NCAA versus NFHS?

Yes and I'm trying to compile a list that shows the differences. Not the list in the back of the NFHS book but a comprehensive list that has all the minor differences as well as the major ones.

If anyone has something like this I would love to take a look at it.
