Where does the throw in take place after a team calls a time out? I've noticed that when a team calls a TO in the backcourt after in bounding the throw in takes place at the end line instead of nearest point of the dead ball. I can't find where in the ncaa rule book where these situations are addressed. Can anyone help.

Thanks

Brad,

After a TO, the ball should be inbounded from the spot closest to where the ball was when the TO was granted. In both HS and NCAA, there is an area of the court that is outlined in the handbook; and if the ball is in this area, then it returns to the endline.

Try to picture this: Pretend your standing under the basket, looking out at the Free Throw Line. Now draw a line from the LEFT end of the FT line to the corner where the endline meets the sideline to your LEFT. Now follow the FT line to the other side and draw a line from the RIGHT end of the FT line to the corner where the endline meets the sideline to your RIGHT. Now add in the FT semi-circle.

If the ball is anywhere inside that area that you're picturing when the whistle blows, then the ensuing throw-in is from the endline. If the ball is outside that area, then the throw-in will be from the sideline. This applies to both frontcourt and backcourt.

Hope that helps.

What is the handbook you are refering?

There seems to be some valuable info in it. Can I find it on the ncaa site?
