First post as a parent of daughter playing NAIA (moving to NCAA D-II next year) and hoping to be coaching again in the next few years. I learned (embarrasingly midway through this season) that there were several rules changes, especially in the womens game. I was wondering for the typical fan/parent, how would you suggest that we keep informed of the rules changes.
Some like the kicked ball and not resetting the shot clock, closely guarded, post play, etc. were some that I was not aware had changed and to me they sort of fell into the 'thats the way has been for a long time' mentality (which is probably not right) but had me confused when some calls or no calls were made. Just looking for suggestions to help us un-enlightened fans of the game. (BTW, I would coach for free, but there is not enough money in the world to do what you guys/gals do...I mean that as a compliment.) |

If you don't wish to join an organization with a fee, just check the NCAA website (ncaa.org) and then navigate to the rules for the particular sport that you are interested in.
The new rules/changes are always highlighted in each new season's rules book when it comes out. Additionally, there are often press releases posted on the website about forthcoming changes. |

Below is a sampling available for Women's hoops. One of my "favorites" links [ncaa.org] sent me to the site because NCAA is "now hosted" there. <HR> Officiating Information 2005-2006 Rules Exams/Quizzes February 6,2006 - Quiz 4 - Violations Quiz Instructions (PDF) Quiz 2 Commentary - Mechanics (PDF) Quiz 1 Commentary - Penalty Administration (PDF) MEMO- Online Testing (PDF) 2005-2006 Women's Rules Review -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2005-2006 General Officiating Information 2006-2007 Women's Basketball Sites (PDF) NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Rules Book (PDF) NCAA Court Diagram NCAA Basketball Signals (PDF) NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Rule Book Illustrated (PDF) Officiating Clinics Dates and Sites (PDF) Officiating Clinic Rules Change Presentation (PDF) Message from the New National Coordinator National Coordinator Selected -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2005-2006 Video Bulletins February 6,2006 - Women's Basketball Video Bulletin #8 - Windows Media February 6,2006 - Women's Basketball Video Bulletin #8 - Real Player January 30,2006 - Women's Basketball Video Bulletin #7 - Windows Media January 30,2006 - Women's Basketball Video Bulletin #7 - Real Player January 20,2006 - Women's Basketball Video #6 - Windows Media January 20,2006 Women's Basketball Video Bulletin #6 - Real Player January 14,2006 Women's Basketball Video #5 - Windows Media January 14,2006 Women's Basketball Video Bulletin #5 - Real Player December 29,2005 Women's Basketball Video #4 - Windows Media December 29,2005 Women's Basketball Video #4 - Real Player December 2,2005 Women's Basketball Video #3 - Windows Media December 2,2005 Women's Basketball Video #3 - Real Player November 21,2005 Women's Basketball Video #2 - Windows Media November 21,2005 Women's Basketball Video #2 - Real Player November 18,2005 Women's Basketball Video #1 - Windows Media November 18, 2005 Women's Basketball Video #1 - Real Player -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2005-2006 Bulletins/Interpretations January 11,2006 Coordinator of Officials Teleconference Minutes Intentional Personal Fouls Memo Defending the Post Player Men's and women's Rules Interpretations September 19, 2005 December 6,2005 - Women's Basketball Coordinators of Officials Teleconference Minutes November 16,2005 - Rules Book Corrections November 16,2005 - Head Band Interpretation -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
