I had two tosses tonight. The first one was tapped and fumbled and ended up as a held ball. Neither team secured control. So the two players in the tie up did the second jump. It was a mismatch, so there was no third jump. Brought me back to the old days when there was no AP arrow and 40-45 tosses in a girls game was an average night at the office.

I played HS in the late 60's and what is now D3 College in the early 70's. The old Rule made for some real interesting strategy depending on what circle was used for the jump ball.

Plus, it made for some humerous moments. I'm 6'-2" and my nickname was "Dime" as that was the clearance my heel made from the floor at the apex of my jump. I got tied up with a 5'5" player in college. This guy's License Plate was "ISKY". I knew he'd get the tap and the crowd would ridicule me without mercy. At least it prepared me for professional life.

Anyone every watch Debbie Black (WNBA) do a jump ball? She's 5'3". I've seen her just run out of the circle rather than even attempting the jump.

Is the main reason they did away with jump balls because it slowed down the game? I think the WNBA reinstituted jump balls a couple season ago.

The WNBA eliminated jump balls at the beginning of periods starting in 2006 (going with the NBA L-L-W procedure), but has always played with the NBA's jump ball rule.

I had 2 last night also. Both jumpers hit at the same time and threw it to the 4th row. IMO, my first toss was better but the second one stayed inbounds.

Today. 2 more jump balls. This time due to OT. In one of the worst games I have ever done. A DH where I am convinced the visiting school must have a whine test one must pass to be a coach. Or a player for that matter.

At the JUCO I do stas for, the first year I was there, the women's coach strategically would have the jumper not jump for the ball so they could start out on defense. It was the weirdest thing to see the first time I saw it.
