This call was completely correct by rule, but you just don't see it called very often. More frequently one sees a held ball called.

17:50 mark of the 2nd half in the Kansas @ Missouri game.

A Missouri player rises for a jumpshot, at the apex the ball is touched by a defender, the ball does not come out of the shooters hands, on his way back down the floor the player releases the ball and lets it drop to the floor, when he grabs it again a travel is called.

Judgment call on whether or not the touch prevented the release of the try.

Our job is to call the obvious. It was clear that once the ball was touched the shooter gave up on the shot and dropped the ball. The defender did not at all knock the ball out of his hand. I think that was a great call. I also did not have a problem with the officials getting together and talking about the call either. I do not agree that this happens a lot. Usually players either finish the shot or they get the ball knocked out of their hand and there should be nothing called.
