...on the replay it looked like a charge to me.

But they didn't ask my opinion... ;)

Report 'em both.

Each of the two buys the 3rd a pint.

The correct procedure, according to a camp clinician and assignor, is as follows:

Assess both fouls, count the basket if it's already in the air, resume at POI, and fire those two f****ers!!

Trails Call

If it was me, I would have let the trail have the first crack at it and had no preliminary signal, just the fist. The lead official was too quick making the call. It looked like the Duke player dipped his shoulder. I know one of the officials in that game very well and I am emailing him now to find out if he was the trail official.

Ok, for the benefit of those of us who were actually out working on the court last night, instead of sitting in the recliner with a beer and the remote:

What happened? Was it really the textbook blarge? What was the play? How did the officials end up handling it? Whose call should it have been? And what ever happened to Naomi? (Wait, damn, I don't watch PBS...never mind.)

Recap

Duke's player has driving to the board opposite of the table strong side and there is a crash. The lead official comes out with the block (which in my opinion was a charge) and the trail official must of signaled a charge (he was out of the picture). Therefore, we have a blarge. The announcers said they reported both fouls.

I always say this should never happen. Good mechanics solves this call. As always, thanks from an Iowa State fan for another blarge thread. I'm now haunted by old nightmares of NCAA tournaments past.

You're welcome. ;)

I didn't read the link, but I was referring to the loss at Michigan State (oh, sorry it was at the Silverdome which was definitely a neutral site) in which a blarge was called fouling out or starting center late in the game. I'd accept a block at that point, but a blarge was hard to swallow. The Hampton loss stunk, but we actually weren't as good as our seeding that year. We were just a tough team down the stretch in the Big 12 that year.
