Interesting thread on consistentcy of kicking .... must be intentional.

I ask about consistency of a dribbler touching / hitting the floor.

In my game if a dribbler with control of the ball hits/touch's the floor for whatever reason - something needs to be called: Traveling, Player Control or perhaps PF on defense - but very rarely is it a NO CALL.

Agreed?

I'm having trouble understanding the question, but ...

It would rarely be travelling, since you can't travel while you dribble.

If the offense initiates the contact and then falls, it's a no call if the defense wasn't disadvantaged (e.g., displaced).

If the defense initiates the contact and the contact affects the dribbler's speed, balance, rhythm (falling to the floor would qualify), then it's a foul on the defense.

I had one the other night. (If this is what you are asking)

A1 was dribbling toward basket...B1 made contact with A1...I would have normally let it go, it wasn't extreme contact, except A1 went to the floor holding the ball.

I've got a foul on B1. B1 created the disadvantage...therefore, PF on B1, not traveling on A1.

Having said that...watch for the "flops" by the dribbler. If the contact wasn't sufficient, in your judgement, to make A1 go to the floor...then, IMO, you have traveling on A1.

If A1 goes to the ground

but continues his dribble, A1 has not traveled, no call. Even if he gets up, if he continued his dribble, no traveling.

I was watching one of the NFL playoff games yesterday when a pass receiver and a defensive back got tangled up with each other, and both went down as the ball sailed over their head. and there was no penalty flag!!!!

I guess they didn't get the memo that "something has to be called."

I don't agree. I've seen kids trip over their feet or hit a slick spot on the floor and go down. Maybe they step on another kid's foot. I don't understand what blanket statements like this are useful for. You have to see something and determine if a foul or violation occurs. If you don't see the contact and a kid goes down, are you going to make something up because most of the time it's because a foul must have occurred? Hope not...

Yeah, I've seen some clumsy ballhandlers looking to get bailed out in the lane amongst the trees.

Why would something have to be called because a dribbler hit the floor? Even if there is contact with a defender, they defender had to at the very least cause the contact. I am not going to call something because a dribbler was out of control and hit the floor on their own. Where does it say you have to call something?

Peace

I've seen too many times (most all in lower level games) where a travel is called on a dribbler who goes to the floor while maintaining the dribble. It could be for many reasons - incidental contact (caused by dribbler), poor floor, clumsy player, etc.

It is not a violation to fall to the floor while dribbling.

I do not understand your question either. But in the absence of contact as long as the player continues to dribble the ball while on the floor, nothing illegal has happened.
