I would never have believed this if I wouldn't have seen it myself. I worked the girls game before this and watched the 1st 1/2 of the guys game. Anybody ever seen anything like this or had anything close in their games?

Great tradition. They should do it at all the Texas Longhorns' games.

Makes sense - everything's bigger in Texas. You should see the size of the corndogs at the concession stand.

Ok, this is obviously one of those rare cases where a team is penalized because of actions by the fans. Was this something that was known well ahead of time? Does the school tacitly allow it by agreeing to the T? And, why was there two T's given? One for the coyote being out the coach's box, and one for interfering with the play? (Oops, wrong thread.) If it ended up on the floor two different times, where was game management?

Inquiring minds want to know...

26 Year Gap Sun Jan 08, 2006 08:45pm

Maybe someone dunked the coyote after it was thrown onto the floor...

Can you imagine a tradition like this being used at a Cleveland Indians' or Washington Redskins' game?

Or a Tufts game?

ChrisSportsFan Sun Jan 08, 2006 10:25pm

I'm impressed to see and 8-8 team score 91 points.

BOBBYMO Sun Jan 08, 2006 11:52pm

"How would the students sneak it in?"

Rumor has it that a trainer for the team snuck into the arena in an extra "equipment bag"
-------------------------------------------
"Was this something that was known well ahead of time?"

Its done at least once a year by one of the teams in the conference who is playing against USD...Usually a rival.
----------------------------------------------
"Why was there two T's given?"

The coyote was thrown onto the floor durring a time out. A staff person from the arena pulled it off the court then chased the kid who threw it. As he chased the 1st kid... Another student picked it up and threw it again. The 2nd time it went pretty far onto the court. It was thrown onto the court twice.... Thats the reasoning for having 2 T's

People Eating Tasty Animals?

Coyote steaks? Coyote souffle? Coyote a la mode? Cream of coyote soup? A McCoyote? etc....

They all sound good to me.

Huskerblue Mon Jan 09, 2006 04:05pm

I actually know one of the officials who worked that game. Here is the short thread of email exchanges between he and I:

Pete,

What are you doing playing games with dead coyotes? The PETA people are going to be all over your ***.

Cory

IT WAS A WILD NIGHT !!! AUGIE STUDENTS WERE CRAZY ALL NIGHT GREAT ASTMOSPHERE --- I asked the lady in charge of the back door when I was leaving after game if she let the coyotes in. Her reply was -- they were alive when they ran by her !!!

Why? He's not going to make the coyote any sicker. Frankly, I think the whole thing is pretty sick.

So what happens when Augie goes to USD? Are they gonna throw Dante Culpepper on the floor? (If they do, he'll probably throw an inteception or fumble.)

Chess Ref Wed Jan 11, 2006 03:19pm

Kinda bothers me

Would this fall under that whole mob thing. People doing things in a group that they would never do alone.

Or maybe we have potential serial killers. Research indicates most serial killers as children killed small pets for the "fun" of it.

Bottom line..I believe in the 2nd Amendment, I have hunted in my day, I eat meat, lots of it, and this still bothers me.

I know a few guys, around these parts, that spend pretty big money on the "sport" of coyote hunting.

This one guy bought a "recorder" that has all kinds of sounds that "brings in" coyotes for the killin'. It cost about $400. His rifle w/ scope, close to a $1000. The site of a dead coyote...priceless.

Hey I LOVED Captain Crunch as a kid. Not so much anymore.

Bare arms ugh the potential for funny is there but.....not quite.

I had a buddy from HS that played for USD a few years ago. Before the NCC disolved, it was coyotes on the floor at SDSU and Jackrabbits on the floor when they played at USD. Huskerblue, who was on the game?

Bobby, That is what I meant. The state school rivalries are gone. Good to see some of the Nebraska guys come through up here every now and then. Was in Mankato on Thursday for the game and 5 of the 6 officials for the double header were Nebraskans. Rumor has it a few more may go D1.

Jeff-

Thats pretty rare that 5 of the 6 would all be from Nebraska.

I am up that way on Sat. night at Saint Cloud State.Should be a great game!!!! It will be a heck of a trip as I am at University of Nebraska at Kearney the night before ( 630 miles one way from gym to gym.)

This is my toughest week of the year with a total of 1,720 miles round trip for my games.
