Game last night, team A has control, ball bouncing around, ball gets tied up. R calls jump ball EXACT same time request for TO is granted to team A. T blows whistle EXACT same time as U. We went with the TO.

Any advice for this situation?

You have to get together and decide what happened first. The rules do not provide for a simultaneous whistle in this particular case.

Whoever granted the TO on a loose ball was wrong to do so, of course, but that doesn't change the call if you go with the granted TO happening first. Call it an inadvertant whistle during a loose ball while A had team control, grant the TO, and then after the TO give team A a spot throw-in at the closest spot to where the ball was when the whistle blew.

These are tough calls. I've got some right and some wrong.

These are two opposing forces: the desire for the coach to call a TO immediatly to protect a possession under duress, and the rules demand that the referee 1) confirm possession and 2) validate the coach calling timeout.

Best solution is to anticipate the TO request coming based on the situation on the court.

It would be the easiest to say the "held ball" call was first, and does the coach still want the TO? If not, play on. If so, take the TO and then play on!

No team control during a jump ball????? So no time out. Call the jump ball.
