I wasn't really looking forward to tonight. Partner has the flu, so I was driving about 90 miles alone to meet an official coming from the other direction. Beyond 30-40 miles, I'd be driving in snow, from what I heard.

So, I was about to hop in the shower when the AD called. Seems there was a fire at the school today and there's still a good amount of smoke in the building and the game was postponed until next weekend.

Well, I didn't really want to work tonight and will enjoy being home with my 11.5 month old daughter, but I didn't want a school to catch fire, either.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Hmmmmm......

Drive 90 miles in a blizzard or stay home and play with your daughter? Tough decision, Rich......

I had to call a game once because of a flood. We did a JV/V double in an old rural gym. Between games, the visiting JV kids blocked the drains in their dressing room with t-shirts and left the showers running. The door to their dressing room entered right onto the gym floor. A few minutes into the first quarter of the second game, water comes pouring out onto the floor under their dressing room door. Couldn't get it all cleaned up or dried up. Suspended the game and wrote up a report. I think that they ended up suspending every kid on the visiting JV team because of it.

Good story.

I didn't realize they had indoor plumbing back when you were working regularly.

Yesterday during the tournament I was working the fire alarm went off a few times during the morning. The first time, they cleared the place out. The next two times... play on!

Playing with the fire alarms is a big problem here in the high schools this year also. I can't wait til they catch some kids and really lay down the penalty to get them all to stop.

Hey what do you do i a case like when the fire alarm is pulled and everyone has to get out, obviously everyone leaves, but when you get back do you giive the team that had the ball, the ball back, or go to a jump ball (alternating posession) or something else

POI.
It's going to be a while as the school probably won't let anyone bcak in the school til the fire dept has given their approval that it's safe.
