Is there any reason to not stop the game so subs may be beckoned into the game, when the game is clearly out of reach and one-sided? I've seen this done at several levels of basketball, from 7th grade on up to varsity. I've seen the game stopped after a made basket, for example. The ref blows the whistle to allow the new players in. Usually happens later in the game with 3 minutes or so left. Avoid it? Endorse it?

Why would this even need to be done, shouldnt the bad kids already be in? They need the time it is their reward for hard work in prac. I'd say no unless a coach had a good reason for you, and of course both coaches agree

I've had to blow the play dead to re-tie my magically un-tied shoes.

Only do it is rec stuff though. One guy caught me one time, when I untied my shoe myself, and subs were waiting for like 2 minutes. He gave a nice little smile.

Doesn't the coach have any timeouts left?? If he/she doesn't, it's none of my concern whether everyone plays or not.

I'm with mj. Of course, I'm talking about the varsity level. If it was a rec game, I'd probably find a reason to stop the game for a second or two.

Middle school, freshmen, even some JV, I'd do it.

Varsity, not.

Yeah, because there is no rule which permits it. :)

That said many people do it anyway.

Agreed, but like JR, my shoe usually comes untied. I did a Jr. High boys game once where the coach actually asked me to call a foul on one of his players next time down the court so that he could get his subs in. I told him I had a better way. Ooops, shoe's untied.
