I saw this play on a website but am not sure if it is legal. Can a player passing in a ball after an opponents made field goal pass to a player on his team who is out of bounds on the same baseline? Also is that player then allowed to run the baseline to pass the ball inbounds?

Thanks,
Bill

Yes! this is a common play in rec leagues in like 5th and 6th grade. This is legal as long as that new player has established an out of bounds position, but the regular count continues
I am a new ref, but this is how i understand it fell free to call me out on this if I am wrong

Just remember that the ball must be thrown toward the court prior to five seconds elapsing starting from the time the ball is originally at the disposal of the inbounding team.

Can this only be done after a made or awarded basket?

Yup, you can't do it on any designated-spot throw-in.

oob thrown-in

please clarify for me, can the other oob person run the baseline after he/she recieved the oob pass? my understanding was they lost the right to run the baseline when they passed it to the other oob player...then it became a spot pass...

one more thing

does the pass have to be in the air,not a bounce pass...if this is so please explain the rationale behind this...thanks

yes he can run the baseline and it can be any kinda pass. even a roll, it can not cross the plane of the line. And of course the 5 second count does not restart so this has to happen fast
