On a jump shot from beyond the 3-point line, what are the responsibilities of officials in a two-man crew? More specifically, is there a time when they are supposed to stop watching the shooter and defender and look elsewhere?

I saw a game the other day where the defender ran into the shooter after the shot was on it's way (maybe halfway to the basket), and both players landed on the ground, with the defender on top, no call.

Should there have been a foul called, or do the two-man responsibilites require the officials to direct there attention elsewhere, or is this just incidental contact?

Look at article 4-1-1, Officials should stay with the shooter until the shooter returns back to the floor without contact.

And one count more . . .

"returns back to the floor without contact" and one count more. The kind of boxing-out that's OK for rebounders in the paint is not reasonable by a defender 20 feet from the hoop. A shooter who just landed is ill-prepared to engage in sumo. Also, you'd like to be sure that, if the defender is running at the shooter, he or she doesn't run through the shooter. There's plenty of time to see if the shot goes in.

Thanks. I thought maybe this was something that was different based on whether 3-man or 2-man was used. I've go to read up more on mechanics. I try to learn by watching crews work, but I get caught up watching the game. Still a fan more than anything else, I guess.
