My state uses a coaching box that's six feet in length. I haven't seen any specific guidelines from our state activities association regarding its placement. I plan to contact them.

In the meantime, to mark a temporary one with tape, would the following be correct?

From the end line, measure 28 feet up the sideline to mark one end of the box and then measure back six feet toward the end line to mark the other end.

You are correct-- 28 feet from the endline--- then the designated number of feet back--- might as well make sure there is an X by the scorer's table as well

Sort of depends on where the benches are located. If it happens to be that one place, where the benches are down on an endline, then the place you described to put it wouldn't work.

If in Texas, and I think this is correct... Find the coaches chair...go three feet to the left of it...mark it....go three feet to the right of the chair...mark it. That's his six feet.

This is how I've always done it:

Locate the first available handicapped parking spot in the parking lot. Start with the center line (the one that divides it from the parking spot opposite). Mark off either 14 feet or six feet, depending on the state. Put down a piece of tape. That's the coach's box. Make sure the nearest gym door is closed and locked. Check at the end of the game to make sure he's still in the box.

Oh, and you need to use the parking lot closest to the team's bench.
