I'm with you coach. "She ought to be able to take a little bumping" and "she deserved it" are completely unacceptable. My question is why the ref didn't just call the intentional right away, instead of trying to stop it verbally. It never works. And then for those parents to blame the player, sheez.

Yep. Incredible that the guy was not concerned about his own player which makes it worse. My apologies, BBR.

8th grade tournament a year or two ago.

player subs in. With a very conspicuous splint on her finger. I say, "You can't play with that splint." Standard reply, "But they let me play earlier!" "Sorry, they were wrong. It's against the rules and I can't let you play."
Coach runs the whole act from bluster to anger to bargaining to wheedling, to "going over my head." He goes and gets the tournament director.
Coach comes back alone and says that the girl can play. I said, "Okay, then I'm leaving. You'll have to find another ref." Coach goes postal, and goes to get the td. She comes back and says, "What's the problem?" I said, "We're using hs rules here, and they don't allow her to play, and my liability insurance won't cover me if someone gets hurt while she's playing with that splint." TD says, "Oh, fine. I'm not a basketball person, I didn't know that."
Coach is now apoplectic. He says, "So am I allowed to sue you if she plays without the splint and re-injures the finger?" I stared, aghast. He kept staring at me, too. FInally I said, "Do her parents know that you are so unconcerned about her health and well-being that you'd let her play in this condition?" I still can't imagine him even thinking that.

It appears as though you and I don't have a lot of movies in common.

I have much more important things to do this morning than Google movie quotes... such as celebrating the fact that I'm taking my little one to school.

I'm glad for you.
