A previous thread made me think, which is a good thing!

Do you agree with the following?

1. There can be no Goal Tending by either team when the team shoots at the wrong goal.

For example A1 gets a defensive rebound at team B's goal and makes an attempt to score a goal in team B's basket. In a) A2 grabs the ball while the ball is above the rim and on its way down with a chance to go in the basket or b) B2 grabs the ball. In either case this is not goal tending because a "try" is defined as an attempt at ones own goal. If this is the case then the ball is live and we play on. Correct?

2. Basket Interference can be called even when the attempt is at the wrong basket.

For example: Same scenario above except this time the ball is in the cylinder when touched by A2 or B2. In each case we have basket interference. However, no points can be scored no matter who commits the interference. Correct? If B2 touches the ball we don't give two points to A since they were shooting at the wrong goal. We simple give the ball back to A on a throw-in. If A2 touches the ball, we give the ball to team B for a throw-in. Correct?

Thanks!
Randall

Incorrect, if it is defensive BI then you will always count the basket.

cford is correct. If A1 touches the ball while it is in the cylinder above B's basket*, award B 2 points.

* Or if A1 touches the ball or basket while the ball is on or in B's basket, etc.

That actually makes sense now that I think about it some more. If the ball had gone in the basket we would credit team B with two points.

Am I correct on the Goal Tending? We don't award any points regardless of who commits the violation and the ball is live and we play on.

More to the point, there is no goaltending when a player throws the ball toward his opponent's basket. It's not a try. No GT. No points.
