Player A1 dribbles the ball in the frontcourt. Player B1 bats the ball so that it bounces off A1 and rolls to the backcourt. A1 is the first player to touch the ball in the backcourt.
Is this a backcourt violation? Team A was the last team to have posession. Frontcourt status was established.

Yes, it is.

"Possession" is not an issue. Team control is the issue and Team A still has it.

Yes, it is a backcourt violation. This is a great rule to know since most fans and coaches explode when it's properly called. Just memorize the case book reference and give it to the coach when he is chewing you out. In the 04-05 case book, see 9.9.1 (Sit. C-a) on page 68. Been there, done that, have the battle scar.....
