I had a pretty well know NCAA official playing in a rec league I did tonight.

At the half he was mentioning how a certain player was doing this or doing that and giving him the business.

I gave the usual, I'll watch for it, but he kept going.

I finally said, "There is a point where you plant the seed, and then there is a point where you trample your own garden."

He looked stunned for a second, his son, who was sitting right beside him just cracked up laughing, I smiled and then he cracked up too.

That saying applies to the "certain" player as well as your NCAA partner.

Very nice. Since he's going to steal that line, do you mind if I do?

I once said to a coach, "There comes a time when you have to stop making bread and start winding your watch."

Feel free to use this anytime you want.

There used to be watches that you actually had to wind?

It's nice to actually come up with one on the spot, for a change.

It's tough carrying that huge plate of shrimp on the court waiting to use the perfect line I thought of on the way home.:D

This one might not be useful all the time.

I was the JV official & sat in at halftime of the varsity contest which was a terrible mismatch and the lower division team was foul crazy, travel crazy, etc. Part way through the 4th quarter, one guy whistled a T on a player and the coach asked the official what that was all about. {It was on the other team]. The reply was, "Mike is probably just p****d that this game is such a piece of S***."
The coach replied, "You're right. This game IS a piece of S***."
