Yelling at the refs is a sport all its own, and the announcers encourage that. If the announcers were just there to explain, the ratings would drop dramatically, and they'd get fired. The whole thing is entertainment, and know-it-all announcers contribute to the bread-and-circus atmosphere. It feels good to some people to get really mad at someone a couple of times a week, and that isn't gonna change any time soon. Basketball just isn't the point.
