I was just wondering... with all of the whining going on in the NBA Finals.
If say player A1 thinks he got fouled on a shot and team B gets the rebound and starts fastbreaking down the floor. A1 is jawing and showing displeasure with not getting the call fully deserving of a "T".
Do you "T" him up or wait until the outcome of the fastbreak is determined through the course of play and then whack him?

No Brainer

Let the fastbreak play itself out and then if the demonstration by the player is truly deserving of the T then you whack him.

Don't penalize the offensive team, by stopping their fastbreak.

What he said :D. If it's the other way around, i.e. Team A on fast break and A1 deserves whacked, pull out the Whackinator 3000 (patent pending) immediately.

Thanks for the replies.
I would not feel right about penalizing a team on a breakout by stopping play with a whackinazation.
I just didn't know if it would be mechanically correct to have a delayed call in this instance.

Yes, there is even an NFHS case book play that has this exact scenario and the case book play says to wait to whack so as to not take away a scoring play (can't remember the case).

WITHHOLD WHISTLE

10.4.1 SITUATION C: A1 is driving toward the basket for an apparent goal when the official, while trailing the play advancing in the direction in which the ball is being advanced, is cursed by the head coach of Team B. How should the official handle this situation?

RULING: The official shall withhold blowing the whistle until A1 has either made or missed the shot. The official shall then sound the whistle and assess the Team B head coach with a technical foul. If the official judges the act to be flagrant, the coach shall be ejected and shall leave the building or go to the team's locker room. If the offender were A's coach, the whistle shall be sounded immediately when the unsporting act occurs.

In my early years, I whacked Coach B just before A1 laid up a successful shot. Sheez. Fortunately, Coach B had coached at School A a year or two before then, and the entire coaching and table staff of School A thanked me later, even though I had taken away 2 points. They really didn't like him, I guess!

Yup. Many referees choose http://www.honigs.com to order their Whackinator 3000s, although some choose http://www.theofficialschoice.com for theirs.

Our comrades in Europe, however, choose to use this website to order the Whackinator 3000.1. http://www.newitts.com/product/OS-22...ic_Whistle.htm
