I was working a summer league/officials camp game the other night at a Christian school. They had posted the "Ten Commandments for Fans" on the wall. I can't remember all of them but I really like number three:

-III. "THOU SHALT NOT REFEREE - please don't demonstrate your ignorance of the game or your vast knowledge of the rules."

One of the other was "THOU SHALT PRAY FOR THE COACH"

I like that, we should vote to make EVERY school have these in their gyms.

It went really well. I had only worked 3-person once before and it hadn't gone two well. I had missed a lot of switches and was not rotating at lead. This time I was with two more veteran officials and we were really clicking. (BTW I don't think some of the fans could read too well! )

That was my question.

I was guessing that the fans were pretty much human -- high ideals, and not a lot of effort put into achieving them!

there are a few places here that read a sportsmanship code before every game. One of the parts of the code is to demonstrate good sportsmanship towards players and Officials LOL....pretty cool to hear it, but it seldom works LOL

They read those in Southern Indiana all the time, big waste of time.

I did a game at a Christian school one time where they prayed for the judgement of the officials during the opening prayer before the game. After it was over, I turned to the home coach, who was standing right there and said, "You heard it coach, if you think we missed a call, you better take it up with the man upstairs." He laughed and said that they always pray for the judgment of the officials, and sometimes prayers just go unanswered.

The person that sang the national anthem at my high school used to read something about sportsmanship after she sang, I don't know if they do it anymore since I haven't been to a game since I graduated high school 4 years ago.

I'll be back there for 6 games this year though, most of them over my Chistmas break from school. Should be interesting, none of the players will know me, but the coaches will remember me.....

At least you didn't quote "My Sharonna" or "Hey Mickie"

We play a Catholic school at which a standard of conduct is posted on the walls. In addition, before each game they read some code of conduct they supposedly believe. We call it Hypocrite High.

Games that start with a prayer never seem to turn out as well as those that don't.

Well, some teams don't have a prayer to start with, but I wonder if one of the commandments is THOU SHALT TAKE THE WRITTEN TEST.
