Probably some old thread has gone over this before, but what levels of ball are people on this board regularly reffing and how many years total have you been at it?

brainbrian Mon May 30, 2005 11:27am

Just finished my high school education, refereed during all four years of high school. Starting my fifth year and I've done it all from 3rd grade to high school varsity. More of the former, but am starting to work towards the latter more now. This season should consist of about 90% high school, the rest grade school.

Mark Dexter Mon May 30, 2005 01:50pm

8 years of scorer's table experience (HS Varsity, NCAA D-I).
4 years of on-court officiating (college intramurals).
Not sure what it's going to be next year.

JRutledge Mon May 30, 2005 02:06pm

This just goes to show how different things are in other parts of the country. There is pretty much no way anyone would get to a state final once, let along two in an 8 year period. There are people around here that do not get a Regional assignment (first level or round of games) by their 8th year working high school basketball.

Peace

tjones1 Mon May 30, 2005 02:12pm

Just completed my second year.
I've worked: 5/6th, 7/8th, Fresh/Soph, JV, and V. On both sides, girls and boys.

refTN Mon May 30, 2005 05:03pm

1 year- Jr. Pro, Grammar school, Jr. High, AAA high school scrimmages, Jr. high semifinals in my area, and AAU state tournament. Through all of this I got very lucky and gained great connections and got invited to IIOC camp, one of John Guthrie's camp.

canuckrefguy Mon May 30, 2005 05:12pm

Eight years now, six of them at HS varsity level, four years doing jr. college - women to start for a year, then mens and womens since then (remember, up here, juco women uses two-person). I've been to a few provincial (state for you guys) tournaments, am still waiting to do a final.

Obviously, though, the system is MUCH different than down where y'all are....so can't really compare straight up.

That is one of the things that I am most grateful for - I am in a part of the country where the opportunities are plentiful(for some people):
I have 4 seasons of college(DII and JuCo - M/W) and next year will be my 10th season as an official. I have been fortunate enough to do 5 Regional finals and 4 state finals(including the large school Boys state final 2 years ago).
I have a passion for officiating(as so many of us do) and I am so grateful that I have been able to accomplish the things that I have.

Zero year of "official" officiating experience at any levels combined.

1 year experience of learning and tuning my rule knowledge in this forum.

Grateful for all the help I've got so far.

experience

I've been doing grade school, mostly 7th-8th grade, for about 12 years. I've done some high school here and there, but I have enjoyed a good career and reputation among the grade schools in our (Lutheran) circles, and have stuck pretty close to home. Green Bay Officials Association!

johnnyrao Tue May 31, 2005 10:34pm

My sixth year on and off since I move a lot in the Army. Did my first year of Varsity this past season (boys and girls). I also worked recreation youth games and some men's rec leagues. My time does not permit anything higher right now, and, come to think of it, it barely allows me to do even the little I do; but I love it and will keep working whatever level they need me to work.

cloverdale Tue May 31, 2005 10:42pm

starting my 4th year...90% jv boys/girls, 5% varsity and 5% junior high...some AAU and summer rec

SMEngmann Wed Jun 01, 2005 01:26am

About to begin my 4th season, 3rd varsity (boys and girls). Got a sectional tourney assignment last season.

My fifth year officiating. 65/35 high school/college schedule.

ocreferee Wed Jun 01, 2005 09:42am

Started rec ball in grade 7. By grade 12 I was calling our HS recreation league (made for some interesting days at school when I T'd somebody up the night before). I did 4 years of intramurals at JMU. Started working HS as a junior there and since have 8 years of HS experience, 5 with a full varsity schedule. 1 state semifinal in Maryland and 2 years of D3 NCAAW under my belt.

My Resume

As a junoir and senior in High School, I did little kids rec ball and one adult rec league. In college I did four years of college intermural ball. After 13 years of reffing maybe one or two games a year for charities, I took the test and got my patch in PA. I have seven seasons under my belt and last year was almost eclusively Varsity and Junior Varsity for boys and girls. Last year I worked a AAAA exhibition girls game, other than that it is mostly A to AAA experience - no AAAA teams in Beaver County. I had to go to Pittsburgh to do the AAAA game.
