I see ol' HuggyBear's contract was up to be rolled over again, and the university said to him "Huggy, ol' buddy, don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out". Probably sumthin' to do with his team being over the salary cap again. Rumor is they're gonna bring in Jerry Tarkanian to replace Huggy. Add a l'il class to the program. Heeheeheehee.......... :D http://www.feebleminds-gifs.com/b4.gif |
JR - You're just one mean ol' fart! What have you got against HuggyBear?
I'll have to admit it was fun seeing his butt get pounded by IL on New Year's Eve. I don't think I saw him smile once (except for the occasional sarcastic smile at the refs...) :D Oh yea, by the way, I'm not from OH, but I have driven through there several times. Officially. |
Hey Luther-

Oh, so close, but I'm afraid that's not correct. No, we were looking for, "Then you'll have to back up and run into him again." But thank you for playing. Tell him what he's won, Slappy! |

It's the fabulous Home Version of the game, "Official's Forum"! Your family will spend hours of enjoyment heckling you as you make the call, right or wrong! Hillarity will ensue! And, that's not all! You also win a case of Rice-A-Rony, the San Fransisco treat! And now, back to you, Chuck... |

Rony lives in Georgia. :) |

I've respected Huggins because he recruites kids that wouldn't have a chance at college under any other circumstances. Okay, so most of them don't graduate but you can only lead a horse to water, not make him drink it.

Graduation issue......how about these facts: (You can rip on em for other reasons but on Grad rate is bogus)
Fact: 24 players who have completed their eligibility during Bob Huggins coaching tenure have graduated.... Fact: 8 of the last 13 seniors to complete their eligibility under Huggins have earned their degree. Fact: Six years ago UC instituted the Recall Program, which encourages all student-athletes who leave to play professionally and did not complete their degree, to return to UC and finish, with assistance provided by UC. Fact: UC had a graduation rate of 100-percent in the 2002 NCAA Division 1 grad rates. Fact: During the 2001-02 academic year, UC menâs basketball won the CUSA Sports Academic Award for the leagueâs best GPA. Fact: Leonard Stokes not only earned his degree, he earned it before taking the court for his senior season in 2002-03. ***Bearcat Graduates under Bob Huggins Steve Sanders, BA Communications Art, â90 Benjamin Ward, BS Criminal Justice â92 Michael Reicheneker, BS Criminal Justice, â92 Andre Tate, BS Criminal Justice, â92 Keith Starks, BS Criminal Justice, â92 Anthony Buford, BA Economics, â92 Jeff Scott, BS Sociology, â93 Erik Martin, BS Criminal Justice, â93 Keith Gregor, BA Health Promotions, â96 Terry Nelson, BA Liberal Arts/Social Sciences, â98 Terrance Davis, BS Criminal Justice, â98 Jackson Julson, BA Communications, â99 Keith Legree, BS Criminal Justice, â99 Levertis Robinson, BS Criminology, â97 Rodrick Monroe, BS Criminal Justice, â97 Ryan Fletcher, BS Criminal Justice, â00 Donald Little, BS Liberal Arts.Social Sciences, â02 Rodney Crawford, BS Criminal Justice, â02 Leonard Stokes, BS Liberal Arts/Social Sciences, â02 Jimmy Hubbard, BS Criminal Justice, MA Labor and Employee Relations, â03 Derek Hollman, BS Criminal Justice, â03 Rod Flowers, BS Liberal Arts/Social Sciences, â03 Taron Barker, BS Criminal Justice, â03 Field Williams, BS Criminal Justice, â04 And I believe soon to be added...Jason Maxiel. Can we move on from this argument for once? |
I'm sure I saw an ESPN report that claimed Huggins' grad rate was 0%. Not a single graduation in like 10 years or whatever. Are your graduation stats more recent, or am I thinking of the wrong program?

Until the NCAA considers graduation rates of players that in different ways graduation rates are going to be a problem for many schools with the NCAA. Most of the schools in this country have graduation rates higher with their sports teams than the regular student population. Peace |

Jerry City, Ohio My mentor in officiating football and basketball is Henry Zaborniak Jr. who is currently an Assistant Commissioner for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He is also a member of the NASO Board or Directors and in 2001 received the NF Distiguished contributor Award. His frequent basketball officiating partner was Dan Ross (new Commissioner of OHSAA). I would ref the JV basket game and then stay and watch them ref the Varsity game. They also watched my games and critiqued my performance every game. To further my education, they asked me to critique their performance also after every game...a daunting task for me as a new official. Needless to say I learned a lot, both rules wise and game administration wise from them. I succeeded Zaborniak as secretary of the Wood County football and basketball officials Associations and held the position for 18 years until moving for two years to Florida and returned to Ohio in 2003. During those same 18 years I evaluated NCAA Div 1 officials in the Mid-American Conference and also scouted prospective officials for the supervisor. My goal is to continue in my mentor's footsteps. My points in mentioning these facts are: 1: Importance of developing sound mechanics and rules knowledge early in your officiating career. 2: Importance of developing good game management skills. 3: Take game seriously no matter what the level. 4: Remember, your performance not only reflects on your character but also on your mentor. 5: Always have a goal to what you would next like to achieve in officiating. 6: Become a mentor. Teach a rule in a meeting, teach mechaninics, go to games and evaluate, etc. I am happy that many of the students I have mentored are officiating at/above the level I attained. Mentors cannot be jealous that the student will surpass him. |
