Between watching 3-person games recently in tournaments, and reading the mechanics manual, I have a pretty good grasp on switches and rotations.

What I don't understand is inbounds. When there is a violation, how do you know who administers the throw-in, and where everyone else is?

If the ball is staying whith the team that has control, the official who had the sideline where the ball is put back into play administers the throw in. The other two ensure the floor is balanced properly - 2 officials ball side and center opposit.

If the ball is going the other way from the backcourt the old lead (new trial) administers the throw in. The other two balance the court in the same way as above. The old C or T on ball side goes to new lead and the other one goes to new center.

Make sense?

In Frontcourt: Lead has end line, C and T have one sideline each. Other oficials adjust so two oficials are on ball side. (Note, college mechanics have L take throw ins below free-throw line extended). No officials cross court.

In Backcourt: Old L / New T has all throw ins, so may cross court. Other officials adjust so there are two on ball side.

NCAA women has the lead administering side line throwins below the free throw line extended because the lead's primary coverage area goes that far, althought the line is still trail's.

I don't think NCAA men have the lead do side line throw ins, just as the lead should not administer a side line throw in in high school 3 man - because that side line is not in his primary.

NF, Men's and Women's College all have different mechanics. If you are looking in the NF manual for explaination of college, you might confuse yourself. Men's college and NF are much more in line, but there are many differences sometimes.

Actually, when looking through the NF mechanics manual (mine is 2-3 years old, though), I found nothing about who administers the throw-in.

Maybe that's a good sign - I'm losing my sight, that must mean I'll be a great official!

I am not talking about your vision. :D I am talking about the mechanics book. Because even this past summer the NF changed and added a few things. So looking in that book might really confuse you. :confused:
