cford writes "Player has control of the ball. Player jumps in the air and fumbles the ball (player control ends). Player gains control of the ball while in the air (player control begins). **This is the same as if a player caught a pass in the air.**"

Can't say that I understand this one.

How is this related to

fumble - dribble - fumble

vs

dribble - fumble - dribble ?

Good point CarlDog. I would say that this is something that is specifically covered in the rules and that my example is not. But again I'm just trying to find out if this is a travel or not.

Well, I'm not an official...and I hesitate to offer my opinion when some heavyweights are involved in this thread....but

in our O.S.F. Men's League (Old, Fat, Slow)when a player leaves the floor with the ball and returns with the ball, and no other player has touched it and the ball has not touched the rim/backboard, we call it a t-r-a-v-e-l.

I'm not repeating the debate.

Me, neither. But I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. Anyone need a coke with their popcorn?

That should be ACOSF Men's League (Old, Fat, Slow and Alphabetically-Challenged!)

Don't let the heavyweights intimidate you :)

I know that most officials call this a travel but that doesn't mean it is. I see a lot of called travels that aren't travels but just look ugly.

I am still waiting for the heavyweights to chime in! I'd definitely like to know there opinions on this matter and I'm sure that this has come up before on the forum.

I do, I do , I do.

It depends on what happened to the ball.

If they jump hold the ball and land, it's a travel.

If they jump shoot and get their own miss, it's nothing.

If they jump and lose control of the ball, it's considered a fumble, and it's nothing.
