Girls AAU tournament. Team A is losing by 20 points with 7 minutes to go in second half. Taveling violation on Team A. Coach is really upset at his players and calls them over to the bench where they stand on the court.

Team B inbounds the ball following violation and makes the uncontested basket. Team A is still with the coach, who is yelling at the girls. 5-second violation on Team A. Team B makes another uncontested basket.

How many times do you allow this before instructing the team to play? At what point do you declare a travesty and rule a forfeit?

If there is a forfeit rule in place, use it. Otherwise, continue to do your job under no obligation to end the game. Keep the players/coaches in control and make sure nobody gets hurt.

Rule 5-4-1: "The referee shall forfeit the game if a team refuses to play after being instructed to do so by any official."

I'm instructing them to play after the five second violation and I'm not administering the throw-in for B after the violation.

Although it's not specifically spelled out, rule 10-1-5 does include the words SIMILAR ACTS.

So I'm instructing, calling a delay of game T, with a forfeit as a last resort.
