"Player gets the ball from the official. While holding the ball, the horn inadvertantly (they claim faulty wiring - yeah, right) goes off. Officials do NOT step in and blow the try dead, player then waits a second and attempts the FT. The shot goes in. Well after the shot enters the basket, one of the officials blows the whistle, and cancels the made FT due to the horn going off and orders the shooter to shoot again at the front end of the 1-1."

Hindsight is always 20/20 but the rule book states that in what ways the ball becomes dead (NFHS R6-S7, NCAA R6-S5) and in this play the sounding of the horn did not make the ball become dead. If the official had wanted to make the ball dead he should have sounded his whistle immediately upon the sounding of the horn. He let the player shoot the free throw instead. When the official did not make the ball dead immediately and the player released the free throw it was too late for the official to make the ball dead. The free throw is good and the player gets to shoot the second free throw of the 1-and-1.

NF does have a protest rule, but I am guessing that each state has some sort of due process in the tourney's. I would hope the assoc. would have a rep at each site for bizarre things that DO happen.

Didn't you mean to say that the NF doesn't have a protest rule?

The NFHS Basketball Rules Committee does not recognize protests.

Yes, I did.

It is amazing how leaving out one word changes everything.
